Our Div 3 ladies played solidly all season, only dropping three of their nine matches played. Still they had their work cut out for them sitting two points behind front runners Pelican Waters heading into the final round at Beerwah. And as the draw would have it, our Ladies were matched against Pelican Waters setting up a “grandstand finish”, with our ladies needing a win by at least two points to topple the Pelican ladies, who had only lost two of their matches up to that point all season.
And the final match had all the drama of a Game of Thrones episode, with the two sides trading blow early – Helen Wilson had a 3/2 win but Pelican bounced back with a 4/3 win to even the stakes. The match came down to the wire with the next two games halved, before Trish Bentley won her match 2/1 on the 17th two secure a victory 3/2 for our side. With the team point coming our way, that gave us a two point win to send the competition into a playoff to decide a winner between the two teams that just battle it out.
Adding to the drama, given the late start of the final round at Beerwah, there wasn’t enough light to send the two teams back out to decide a winner, so the decision was made to come back the next day to declare a winner.
Riding the momentum gained from the strong final round performance, our ladies required just one hole to snatch victory from the Pelican ladies and win the 2019 NCZ Division 3 Pennant title.
Congratulations to Helen Wilson, Donna Turner, Jan D’Arcy, Robyn Powell, Trish Bentley, Wendy King, Christa Louw, Margi Douglas, Joy Godfrey and team captain Lyn McWaide for the brilliant performance all year and their magnificent final round victory.
We had strong performances by all three of our Ladies Pennant teams, and while we didn’t get the Chocolates in the Division 2 North team or our Weekend team, we still had stong finishes by both teams and we only just out of contention in both competitions.
The Division 2 North Weekday ladies competition was extremely close, with our ladies just finishing in third position, half a point behind Noosa Springs and two points shy of winners Twin Waters.
Team captain Lynne Schouten was extremely delighted with the performance of the squad, commenting on how all team members played to the best of their ability in every game and proudly represented our Club.
“In most of the games, our team members had to give multiple shots but rose to the occasion and overcame the deficit,” Lynne stated of the effort by our ladies.

The team would also like to thank their supporters and caddies, namely Jenny Robinson, Judy Portway, Carol Traill, Jean Warren, Pam Toolis, Sue Holman, Diane Richardson, Louina Robertson and Mick.
Our reigning premiers in the NCZ Weekend competition were unfortunately not able to defend their title, but finished a valiant 3rd in another close competition. Our ladies were placed equal 2nd, just one point back from competition leaders Caloundra heading into the final round where the title was up for grabs. Unfortunately it wasn’t their day in the final round, losing just their second match all season to fall to third overall. Eventual winners Caloundra meanwhile had a dominant win in the final to increase their lead and win the Pennant title.
Congratulations to all the ladies, both players and supporters/caddies, who represented our club with great valour throughout the season.
