Jan Porter Runner-Up in Wide Bay Vets Spring Carnival

The Wide Bay Vets Spring Carnival, the premier annual veterans’ carnival in the Wide Bay District, offers a total of ten rounds of stroke competition over 14 days played on five Wide Bay courses in late August early September each year. This year there were two rounds each at Coral Cove, Bargara, Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay Golf Clubs. The Carnival Winners are determined by the best seven scores of the ten games played.

Jan Porter achieved Runner-up for A grade Gross, scoring an aggregate total of 631 for her seven best rounds. Jan was only beaten by a local Hervey Bay player, who not only had the ‘hometown’ advantage but was also playing off a 4 handicap. Jan, who plays off 12, also won the Best Nett daily prize at Coral Cove on the first day with a 69 nett, and Nett runner up the second day.

There were 41 women competing in the Carnival this year, and Jan was one of 13 players contesting the A Grade competition. Overall there were 40 clubs represented Australia wide in the competition.

Other representative from Mount Coolum were Mick Ludeke – finishing 10th overall in the Men’s A Grade –  and Ian Neill who played in four daily rounds of the B Grade competition, so didn’t qualify for on overall Carnival placing.
