Home ground advantage was obviously not a factor with the Mount Coolum Men’s Open played on Sunday 6th October, with only two Mount Coolum members in the Top 10, and just three home members taking away any prizes at all out of the $1200 prize pool.
Jake Crowther from Headland Golf Club won the major prize, scoring just one over par 72. Jake, who plays off a scratch handicap,
Alex Bottrell (Carbrook) and Peter Bennett (Redland Bay) were runner-up and 3rd place respectively after both scored 76.
Keith Horne continued his reign as SCGZ Senior Men’s Champion, winning the title again for the fifth consecutive year with 76 off the stick also. KR Smith from Mount Coolum was the SCGZ Senior Nett Winner, one of the few Mount Coolum members to win a prize.

The Mount Coolum Men’s Open was moved to the October long weekend to attract as many visiting players from out of the district as possible. This strategy, along with the perfect weather over the weekend, obviously worked with over half the field coming from other Clubs. Of the 110 entrants in the Men’s Open, 60 players were visiting from another Club. And while many of the visiting players were from Clubs within our district, we did have a large portion of visitors from other regions, mainly Brisbane from Clubs like Ashgrove and Wantima, but also further south such as Brookwater and even interstate with a visitor from Coolangatta-Tweed.
