The 2020 Men’s Foursomes was played on Sunday, in our first major competition/event following the COVID disruption to our scheduled fixtures.
As expected, the main competition came out of the “lead group” of Tiaan and Stephan Scheepers, Scott Mitchell and Jack Elsley (reigning champions), and Zach Quirk and Lance DiIanni. These players, in one combination or another, have won the event or been a part of the winning team for the last four years.
And in the end it was the Scheepers Brothers who reclaimed the title, scoring 158 (80+78) gross to edge out Scott and Jack on 161 (79+82).
Winners of the nett category were Wally Thompson and Allan Smee, scoring 147 (75+72) nett in a close one over Mick Mraz and Paul Dudman with 140 (75.5+73.5).
Special mention to KR Smith and Nigel Smyly who finished just one stroke out of the prizes in both the gross and nett categories.
Although the course was still a little wet from heavy rains at the end of last week, the weather on the day was picture perfect and it thankfully held that way for the gruelling 36 hole event, which took players up to 7 hours to complete.
It was the unofficial launch of Rustys Food and Barbecue at the Club on Sunday, with Rusty providing his version of a Sausage Sizzle (slow smoked sausages in bread) as sustenance for the players during the day. Then for presentations Rusty cooked up some amazing Brisket Burgers (in a deal with Chips and a Beer) which was the perfect topper after a big day on the course.
Congratulations to all the winners (listed below) who will receive the Voucher Credits at the Club Presentation Function in November. We have also added a Ball rundown to 156 nett, and they will receive credits in their voucher accounts today.
