Dry Weather Produces Hot Scores at Junior Championships

After a washed-out false start on Sunday 26th July, the District Junior Open – with Rod Pampling Classic and Katherine Kirk Junior Championship – was held yesterday (Sunday 16th August) in almost perfect weather conditions, albeit for a little bit of wind to add a further challenge to the field of 74 Junior golfers.

With the support of The Invincibles Tour, the Women’s District (SCBDWG) and the Men’s District (SCSBDGA) offering some very generous prizes, there was plenty to play for in the first major Junior event following the COVID-19 hiatus. And there were some fantastic scores by some of the regions best young talent, with four golfers all scoring nett 5-under par on the day! Marley Habermann (Division 2 Girls), Koa Wood (Division 3 Boys), Mattys Visser (Division 1 Boys) and Manato Nakatani Division 1 Boys) all score nett 67 on the tight and challenging Mount Coolum course.

Brother and Sister Manato Nakatani and Haruhi Nakatani took out the top prizes on the day, winning the Boys Open Champion and Girls Open Champion prizes respectively.

Manato threatened the course record after scoring a sizzling 68 (4 under par) off the stick to win the boys top award, while Haruhi shot an even card with 72 gross for her round.

A big thank you to all the Juniors attending the event, and especially the parents for coming along and supporting Junior Golf on the Sunshine Coast. With COVID restrictions still affecting these events, and especially the Presentations following the round, unfortunately not all players were able to collect their prizes and have their pictures taken on the day. Anybody who was unable to collect their prize, please contact the Club on 5446 1539.

Please head to the Invincibles Website for more news on the event, as Graeme does a wonderful job collating all the results and highlights, including plenty of pictures of all the players.
