Kevin Smith’s name was put forward by Heather Chalmers and Barry Degenhardt for election to Life Member at the AGM this past Sunday, with reference to his tireless work for the Club over the years with the Working Bee, and development of our Junior Golfers with the Friday Cadets and his work with the Clubs Junior Pennant Teams.
Kevie has been a member for just shy of 20 years – he joined in January 2001 – and has always been dedicated to helping around the Club whenever and wherever he can. With his “own little office” in the Match Room upstairs, Kevin has been the Club’s handicapper for more than 10 years, finishing the Clubs competitions and sorting cards and posting results, including the Clubs Major competitions, Junior events and Vets host days.
During growing season, it isn’t odd to see Kevie on the fairway mower lending the Course Staff a hand, and he was also part of the Working Bee for many years doing odd jobs and making small improvements to the Club and Course.
And his work and commitment has not gone unnoticed, with well over the required 75% vote in the affirmative on Sunday to pass the motion for KR Smith to be granted Life Membership of the Mount Coolum Golf Club.
In his acceptance speech, Kev was clearly overwhelmed to be bestowed this honour, which shows his humble nature and his true passion for the Club and all its members.
Congratulations Kevie on a much-deserved honour and recognition.
