The Final of the 2024 Mt Coolum Handiskins was held under stunning conditions on Sunday, December 22nd. After five intense qualifying rounds, the field of 64 players was narrowed down to the top four finalists: Brett Whalley, Tom Burt, Michael Ferraz, and Mitch McArthur.
The competition followed a single skins match format, with players vying for $1,200 in club vouchers. The prize distribution was structured as follows: $40 per hole for the first six holes, $60 per hole for the next six, and $80 per hole for the final six. Additional prizes of $60 each were available for Nearest to the Pin (NTP) on the 8th and 16th holes.
Despite their best efforts, none of the players landed on the green for the NTP holes, resulting in the prizemoney being evenly split among them.
After 17 holes, the standings were tight: Brett and Tom had each secured $150, Mitch accumulated $190, and Michael led with $310. With the 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes all halved, the pressure intensified for the final hole, which carried a massive $400 prize. However, no decisive putts were made, and the hole was halved, awarding each player $100.
Final Results:
- Michael Ferraz: $410
- Mitch McArthur: $290
- Brett Whalley: $250
- Tom Burt: $250
The finalists enjoyed a fantastic day of golf, leaving with well-earned winnings. Next year’s event dates have already been set, with hopes of even greater participation. A special thanks to Club Captain Liz Cooper for generously giving her Sunday morning to referee the Final.
