Lochie Coleborn has successfully defended his title and has won his fourth Club Championships in a row. After winning his first Club Championship as a fresh-faced 17 year old in 2016, Lochie has hardly looked like relinquishing his title run. In his four-year dominance of the Championship, Lochie has set records for lowest round scores and lowest total score for the 72 hole event, and has usually had a double-figure stroke lead on his nearest rival.
This year, still fresh-faced as ever, Lochie had a 14 stroke lead going into the final round, after carding scores of 73/71/73 in the first three rounds. And even with that virtually unassailable lead and the opportunity to take it easy in the final round, Lochie still finished with a 75 in atrocious conditions yesterday (more on that below) to keep the lead margin at 14 strokes.
The 2019 Men’s Champions are:
- Club Champion: Lochie Coleborn
- B Grade Champion: Joel Archer
- C Grade Champion: Bruce Cowan
- Veteran Champion: Craig James
- Junior Champion: Jack Elsley
The 2019 Club Championships started under a cloud (literally!) of wet weather with a water-logged course and Lift,Clean and Replace rule in effect to try to combat the soggy conditions. We did see an improvement of weather for the next few weeks, and conditions for the third round on Saturday were almost perfect. However the weather turned foul overnight for the final round on Sunday, with 10mm of rain recorded prior to the start of play on Sunday. It wasn’t until lunchtime though when the skies opened up on the final groups, drenching course and players alike, and raising the average scores of the field by 2 strokes (although the A Graders bucked the overall trend and were on average half a stroke better!).
Joel Archer was in an intense battle for the B Grade title, where he lead after round one but had slipped to third before the 4th and final round. Joel fought back with a tremendous final round in the abysmal conditions, winning the daily competition on Sunday with a nett 73, and was enough to give him an eventual 11 shot lead in the Championship standings.
In the C Grade competition, Bruce Cowan managed to stay reasonably consistent over the four rounds, carding 103-98-103-103 to win by 6 shots. The predictable inconsistent scores of the C Grade players saw a lot of up and down movement of his rivals below him on the leaderboard, however Bruce kept steady at the top with his consistent play.

The Top 8 of each grade will now be invited to take part in the Club Match Play Championships, which start on Saturday 15th June.
