Yellow Ball Day Adds Bright Spot to Competition

The Mount Coolum Ladies had their annual Yellow Ball challenge today, where the individual Stableford competition is played in conjunction with a teamed Yellow Ball competition score. The Yellow Ball Day is a ‘novelty’ event which adds a bit of colour to the ladies playing calendar.

Sponsored by Pat Ross, the Yellow Ball Day has teams of three playing a Yellow Ball on rotating holes – lowest Handicapper plays the 1st, second-lowest plays the second and the highest handicapped player in the team plays the 3rd hole. This pattern continues through the 18 holes, with the team score the Stableford score of the Yellow Ball for each of the holes.

There were a couple of ladies who got right into the spirit and dressed their whole team in Yellow for the event.

The team of Lynne Schouten, Jenny Robinson and Julie Rayfield (pictured) collectively scored 39 points with their Yellow Ball to win the team event. Runners-Up with 37 points were Cheryl Cowley, Marg Betts and Kerryn Hyde.

A key condition for the competition is of course for the team to complete all 18 holes with the one Yellow Ball. Of the 21 groups that played today, only 14 Yellow Balls returned, so there were seven Yellow Balls donated to the waterways of the course today, with a majority of them on (or in) the 6th fairway creek crossing.

Many thanks to Pat Ross for her support and sponsorship of the Yellow Ball Day.

In the individual event, Pam Hunt won the A Grade (Div 1) with 38 points from Di Chard (36). Heather Houston (38) won the B Grade (Div 2) competition from Margaret Betts (37). And Yumiko Schofield (38) took the lolloes in C Grade (Div 3) from Pauline Rohweder.
