The Mixed Foursomes Championship was held on Sunday 11th August, with the honour board event played in perfect sunshine, albeit with a blustery westerly wind. We scheduled the Foursomes event a little earlier than the normal September arrangement so as not to conflict with a couple of major tournaments that are held around springtime.
The result was a fantastic field of 39 pairs, all prepped and primed to attack the 27-hole event, which included numerous husband and wife teams, some newly minted couples and pairs, as well as some well-established teams who annually combine for this event.
After playing second fiddle as Runners-Up last year, Tiaan Scheepers and Jean Brkic reclaimed the title this year scoring 124 for the 27-holes. Stephan Scheepers and Jan Porter were just 4 strokes behind on 128 to claim the Runner-Up prize.
This means this year’s contest was another repetition of the now five-year ‘battle’ between Tiaan and Jean against Stephan and Jan. These two teams have prevailed as winner and runner-up in one order or another since 2015, with the exception of 2016 when TJ and Sandy Mastin won the event with Tiaan and Jean as Runners-Up.
Peter Madden and Elly Cooper won the nett category, combining to score 108.5, just off the total par of 108. Herman Putter and Carol Tandy were nett runners-up with 113.5.
The ‘Mixed Gruesomes’ award is given to the best placed Husband and Wife team, comparing competing in this event as a married couple to a gruelling experience than can strengthen (or destroy) even the best matrimonial joining. Al and Leigh Bruschweiler have won this years Mixed Gruesomes award with a score of 113.5. I think they are still on speaking terms…
A special mention to Yvonne Little, who was too greedy to let her playing partner and husband Stephan play a shot on the 10th by hitting a Hole in One with her tee shot.
The winners of this competition will receive their voucher top-up award at the end of year Presentation scheduled for Sunday 3rd November.
