To add to inter-club competition, the Women’s District (SCBDWG) run a Nett Pennant competition throughout the year, which involves a scoring system for Clubs competing at each Open Day across the district. This system uncovers three winning Clubs who then play off at the end of the year in a three-way final.
The District is divided into the two Zones – North Coast Zone (NCZ) and South Burnett Zone (SBZ). With 12 Clubs competing in the North Coast Zone competition, the NCZ is further divided into North region (Noosa, Mount Coolum, Cooroy, Gympie, Nambour and Tin Can Bay) and South region (Pelican Waters, Bribie Island, Beerwah, Maroochy River, Caloundra and Headland). The winners of North and South will play off against the South Burnett winner towards the end of the year to determine a Nett Pennant Champion of the District.
The NCZ Nett Pennant competition uses the best 5 stroke scores for each participating club at each Open day to award points and find the winner of each region, North and South. The Club with the lowest aggregate nett score – using the best 5 scores for each team – wins maximum points with the remaining Clubs getting a smaller proportion of points.
Our Mount Coolum Ladies have taken out the North competition, which was confirmed with the final Open Day held at Tin Can Bay on Friday 13th September.
Heading in to the final competition, our Ladies had a narrow two-point lead over Cooroy with Noosa also a chance just a bit further back. The ‘home town’ team of Tin Can Bay understandably took out maximum points in the final round, and the Mount Coolum Ladies finished 3rd on the day, ahead of Cooroy which pushed our final winning margin out to five points.
